I Medici McGill Mother’s Day Concert Supporting Women’s Health Research at the MUHC

It is so nice to share a meaningful local story ahead of Mother’s Day that beautifully brings together music, medicine, and community impact.

On Sunday, May 10 (2 pm), I Medici di McGill Orchestra will present a special Mother’s Day concert at Oscar Peterson Hall (7141 Sherbrooke Street West)in support of women’s health research at the  McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).

This unique initiative, organized in collaboration with 100 plys  Women Who Care Montréal, will raise funds for the EndoCARES program, a leading multidisciplinary initiative advancing care and research for endometriosis, a condition affecting one in 10 women.

What makes this story particularly compelling:

  • The orchestra is composed primarily of physicians and medical trainees
  • A graduating medical student will perform Elgar’s Cello Concerto
  • The event highlights the intersection of healthcare, arts, and community advocacy
  • Proceeds directly support women’s health research locally

Founded in 1989 by Dr. Ante Padjen, I Medici di McGill is now in its 39th season. The orchestra brings together over 60 musicians, primarily physicians and medical trainees, who share a commitment to artistic excellence and community impact.

Under the direction of conductor and artistic director Lori Antounian, the concert will feature graduating medical student and cellist Michael Prudencio-Brunello performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto. The program also includes Salut d’amour (Elgar), Pavane (Fauré), and Symphony No. 1 (Rimsky-Korsakov).

“At its core, I Medici di McGill is about connection—between colleagues, between disciplines, and with the community we serve,” said Dr. Alexandre Sheasby. “Many of us have carried music alongside our careers in medicine for years, and this orchestra is a space where those two parts of our lives come together in a meaningful way.

“Our collaboration with EndoCARES at the MUHC feels especially important, as it reflects the kind of care we strive for in our own work: thoughtful, collaborative, and patient-centered. This Mother’s Day, we are proud to support EndoCARES in advancing care, research, and timely diagnosis for endometriosis.”
