Laurel businesses start food drives for Mission at the Cross
LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) – Laurel businesses are making a push to help out a local nonprofit organization with a few food drives.
The food drives will benefit the Mission at the Cross in Laurel.
It is a one-year program for men struggling with addiction.
Dixie Electric Power Association started a peanut butter and jelly drive to help.
The company has partnered with several statewide cooperatives to hold this drive every year.
“We’re proud to support our local ministries that touch different parts of our community,” said Amanda Mills, Manager of Communications for Dixie Electric and DE Fastlink. “This one in particular, we’re glad to help those who are facing difficult circumstances so that we can provide them a nutritious meal to help them get back on their feet.”
Businesses are asked to place a food bin in their storefront for donations.
The mission said they sometimes run low on food supplies so donations are always helpful.
“We take donations from various businesses all over the south,” said house leader, Allen Langston. “It takes a lot to feed all the guys that we have right now. We have 22 so it takes a good bit of food to feed everybody three times a day.”
Peanut butter and jelly donations can be dropped off at any Dixie Electric office.
The deadline is Sept. 20.
