Med Center Hospitality House receives $15,000 donation for food pantry
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – This morning, a $15,000 donation was presented to the Med Center of Bowling Green from Atmos Energy.
The donation will go towards the Med Center Hospitality House’s food pantry where those with family staying long-term at the hospital can stay and eat for free.
“These people that come to this facility, those are people that are in need and the last thing they want to worry about is what they are going to have for supper tonight,” said Kay Coomes, Public Affairs Manager for Atmos Energy. “They’ve been with their child all day long and they haven’t even thought about eating. So, this is just a wonderful opportunity to address that need as well as help our heroes.”
The Med Center said that along with the pantry, the Hospitality House has 12 rooms within the facility which can be utilized at no cost to the patient or family through staff referral.
“Hotels are expensive and there are a lot of people who would like to be there and present,” said Director of Hospitality House, Carla Reagan. “We know that patients who have family helping to take care of them while they’re hospitalized tend to get better a little faster, and not everybody has the ability to check out a hotel.”
Med Center officials said that the donation will go a long way toward making sure the pantry is stocked for those who need it over the next several years.
