Cuyahoga County releases $250k in funds for emergency food assistance following August
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cuyahoga County officials announced Tuesday that $250,000 in additional funds have been made available for emergency food assistance.
The announcement comes weeks after a powerful storm wiped out power and rendered many Cuyahoga County residents groceries inedible.
“Cuyahoga County has increased funding for emergency food assistance by $250k due to a significant increase in calls for service stemming from recent power outages,” a release from the county says.
The county says it will work with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to replenish food lost in the outages.
Officials say additional levy dollars were approved by the Board of Control for the United Way of Greater Cleveland Emergency Food Purchase contract.
The United Way Services of Greater Cleveland reports an increase upwards of 300% in food service requests due to the storms.
Food bank locations and volunteer opportunities can be found on the Greater Cleveland Food Bank website.
