Watch Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s speech at the DNC Monday


Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson took the podium at the Democratic National Convention Monday night and was one of the first to address those who attended the event.

In his speech, Johnson spoke about Chicago’s history of progressive political leaders who’ve become national figures, including former President Barack Obama. .

The Democratic National Committee convention is in Chicago through Thursday and Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday is scheduled to formally accept the party’s nomination for the 2024 Election.

What to know about Johnson

  • Who he is: Johnson is the mayor of Chicago. Before he became mayor, he was a public school teacher, union organizer and Cook County commissioner, according to his website.
  • What role he plays: Johnson was one of the first speakers to take the podium Monday night, and took over the Remarks and Introduction portion of the event.
  • Key quote: “As a Black man, raising a little Black girl on the west side of Chicago, I know that my daughter Braedyn will see not only a reflection of herself in the White House but she will experience the deepest part of American values”
