NYC hiring poll workers for 2024 election: Here’s how much you can earn
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The NYC Board of Elections has announced it is hiring poll workers to serve at poll sites across the five boroughs for all nine early voting days plus the general election. Those eligible can earn up to $2,750 for the 10-day shift.
Available positions include election inspector, interpreter and student poll worker. Here are the requirements/duties for each:
Election Inspector:
Requirements:
- Registered voter residing in the City of New York
- Enrolled in the Democratic or Republican party
- Able to read and write English
Duties:
- Prepare the poll site for voters
- Assist voters during the voting process
- Close the poll site
- Canvass and report election results
- Assist other poll workers as needed
Salary:
- Earn $250 per day
- Earn $100 for training
Interpreter:
Requirements:
- A permanent U.S. resident over 18 years of age and a resident of New York City
- Fluent in English and the interpreter’s language
- Spanish interpreters needed in all boroughs
- Chinese interpreters needed in Manhattan, Brooklyn & Queens
- Korean, Hindi and Bengali interpreters needed in Queens
- Does not have to be a registered voter
- For Hindi Interpreters: Please note on your application if you can also speak Punjabi.
Duties:
- Assist non-English speaking voters by translating voting information into covered languages during the voting process
Salary:
- Earn up to $250 per day
- Earn $25 for training
Student Poll Worker
Requirements:
- Must be 17-years-old by Election Day and get permission from school official and parent/guardian.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Bilingual students fluent in Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Hindi and Bengali are encouraged to apply
- Must attend school in New York City.
- Must have a GPA of at least 2.5 (B or 80).
- Must be registered to be a “future voter.”
Salary:
- Earn up to $600 to work two elections and take the training class.
