Liz Cheney to speak at Detroit Economic Club with ABC’s Jonathan Karl
Former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney will speak before the Detroit Economic Club on Tuesday in a conversation with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl.
The event exclusive to DEC members and accompanied guests at MotorCity Casino Hotel will come less than two weeks after Republican nominee Donald Trump addressed the club where he revealed plans framed around reviving the auto industry, including reforming the 2020 trade agreement he signed with Mexico and Canada, imposing larger tariffs, implementing tax breaks to encourage investment and making auto loan interest deductible. He also criticized Detroit as a “once great city,” more “developing” than “most places in China” and a similar outcome to what the country will look like if Vice President Kamala Harris is elected president.

Cheney, a Republican who represented Wyoming from 2017 to 2023, has endorsed Harris and joined her on the campaign trail. She is the daughter of former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney and was the top GOP lawmaker on the House committee that investigated the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
The formal program will begin at 12:05 p.m., though there will be a networking cafe starting at 11 a.m. and a speaker reception at 11:30 a.m. that is open to the economic club’s board as well as Life and Gold members. A strolling lunch will follow at 1 p.m. Tickets and membership registration is available online.
Karl is ABC’s chief Washington correspondent and co-anchor of “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Ann Arbor, will be the presiding officer of the economic club’s meeting.
