Free college applications begin for New York students
Starting today, application fees will be waived for SUNY and CUNY schools.
Governor Kathy Hochul making the announcement Friday:
Ensuring that every student has the opportunity to pursue higher education is a top priority for New York State,” Governor Hochul said. “College Application Month isn’t only about waiving fees — it’s about breaking down financial barriers and opening doors to future opportunities. We’re empowering students across the state to take the first step toward achieving their educational and career goals while removing the financial obstacles that may deter students from pursuing higher education.
For the second year in a row, 50 private colleges will also waive their fees. SUNY schools will be free to apply to until November 3rd.

CUNY schools are free to apply for New York city residents through November 3rd and will be free for the rest of the state from November 4th to the 15th. As for the private schools, free application deadlines vary.
