New apartment complex could be coming to Springfield
A new apartment complex may be coming to Springfield.
The Town and Country Shopping Center in the 2300 to 2500 blocks of South MacArthur Boulevard, home to the strip mall including Chuck-E-Cheese and the closed Hibachi Grill Supreme Buffet, could get a facelift.
The Springfield Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of a new apartment complex with green space during a Nov. 20 meeting.
The petitioner and owner of the complex, Larkspur Properties, plans on constructing a 3-story apartment complex with up to 40 apartments for rent.
Three of the four buildings in the lot would be demolished, save for Underdog Sports & Fanfare which would be staying. A pylon sign advertising the plaza would be added.

Larkspur Properties, an investment firm in Miami, bought the 260,000-square-foot shopping center for $5.7 million in 2022.
Larkspur president David Bernstein said at Wednesday’s meeting that a one-bedroom would reflect market value and would be $1,100 if built today.
Ward 6 Ald. Jennifer Notriano, who’s ward the shopping center falls in, spoke in support of revitalizing the plaza and saw the housing as a major opportunity.
“I live very close to MacArthur Boulevard on State Street and this area is on my dog walking route so I definitely could see people wanting to live there and having shops to go to,” Notriano said. “I feel if we got a restaurant there, we would see a restaurant or a cafe or something like that in Town and Country.”
The ordinance is scheduled to be voted on by Springfield City Council on Dec. 17.
