England squad announcement: Thomas Tuchel explains reason for axeing Trent

Thomas Tuchel‘s embrassment of riches as England boss is more apparent than ever as he spent more time talking about the players he left out of his squad than those who are in it.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the major omission from the 24-man party but the German insists he is a ‘huge fan’ of the right back, he just faces stiff competition.
After leaving Liverpool on a free transfer, Trent has failed to catch fire in the Spanish capital thus far and has recently been dropped for Dani Carvajal.
Reece James, Tino Livramento and the adaptable Djed Spence have been given the nod this time around.
‘The competition is up. They will stay in the mix, I know how desperate they are to come back,’ said Tuchel of Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish who also missed out.

Kobbie Mainoo has gone from Euro 2024 final starer to not being able to get minutes for a severely under-performing Man United side.
Tuchel insists if the midfielder can get more minutes – something he’s willing to leave Old Trafford to do – he can win a place back in his squad.
“He is on our list of players, but at the moment, in his position 6/8/10 in central midfield, we have players who are in full rhythm and who play key parts in their clubs, and this is the next step for him.”

Tuchel also took time to apologise to Jude Bellingham after claiming his mother was ‘repulsed’ by the Real Madrid star’s behaviour back in June.
“I used this word unintentionally… there was no message, no hidden agenda.
“I am sorry for the upset, and for the headlines I created.”

Major headlines from Tuchel’s new squad is call-ups for Elliot Anderson, Djed Spence and Adam Wharton in addition to a recall for Marcus Rashford. Harry Maguire and Jack Grealish remain omitted.
From the last squad that lost to Senegal, Kyle Walker, Trevor Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, Curtis Jones and Ivan Tony miss out.
Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer are all injured.
