Recent Dîner en Blanc Montréal was ‘a living tableau of art, fashion and gastronomy’

More than 2,500 Montrealers came together on Friday, Sept. 5 for the 15th edition of the Dîner en Blanc, which was held at Place d’Armes, at the foot of Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal.

Under the theme Elegance in Bloom, this was the city’s largest all-white-dress-code dinner since the end of the pandemic, with guests transforming the site into what promoters described as “a living tableau of art, fashion and gastronomy.”

The evening’s “I’ll-have-the-white-wine-please” location was, as usual, kept secret until shortly before guests arrived to keep the hoi polloi and assorted riff raff from crashing the party.

Led by co-founder Sandy Safi, Dîner en Blanc has become a major urban picnic the world over. The event, which originated in France 35 years ago, has since expanded to six continents, 40 countries and over 120 cities. While each location incorporates its own cultural and culinary elements, I’m not sure if poutine and steamed hot dogs were on the evening’s menu.
