Karoline Leavitt loses it as she's called out for childish ‘your mom’ response
Karoline Leavitt has been accused of acting like a child after responding to a reporter with ‘your mom’ before raging at his ‘bulls—‘ question about Trump’s upcoming meeting with Putin
Karoline Leavitt has been slammed as “childish” after responding “your mom did” when asked by a reporter who decided that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin would meet in Budapest.
The White House press secretary then launched into an expletive rant when she was called out for the bizarre text. Following a two-hour phone call with Putin last week, Trump announced he will soon meet with the Russian president again after their Alaska summit in August failed to deliver a peace deal to end the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.
This time around, Trump said the meeting will be held in Budapest. The Hungarian capital was the site of the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, which saw Ukraine agree to give up the nuclear weapons it had inherited from the Soviet Union in exchange for security assurances from the US, UK and Russia.

The signatories vowed to respect Ukraine’s existing borders and sovereignty and agreed to refrain from the use of threat or military force. But Putin broke that promise with his s 2014 invasion and annexation of Crimea and decade-long military offensive in the Donbas region, followed by the full-scale invasion in 2022.
Given the history of the region, Leavitt was asked via text message by a HuffPost reporter last week “Who suggested Budapest?” The press secretary responded: “Your mom did.”
Shortly after, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung also replied: “Your mom.” Leavitt’s response was quickly branded “childish” by critics.
But the 28-year-old press secretary has since doubled down on her answer, taking to X to reveal her raging follow-up response. Leavitt shared a screenshot of the text exchange.
It showed that the reporter replied: “Is this funny to you?”. Leavitt hit back, writing: “It’s funny to me that you actually consider yourself a journal. Your are a far left hack who nobody takes seriously, including your colleagues in the media, they just don’t tell you that to your face. Stop texting me your disingenuous, biased, and bulls— questions.”
Leavitt wrote alongside the screenshots: “For context, S.V. Dáte of the Huffington Post is not a journalist interested in the facts. He is a left-wing hack who has consistently attacked President Trump for years and constantly bombards my phone with Democrat talking points.”
She continued ranting: “Just take a look at @svdate’s feed, it reads like an anti-Trump personal diary. Here is my full response to his ‘inquiry.’ Activists who masquerade as real reporters do a disservice to the profession.”
Critics were quick to call out her response too, accusing her of acting like a five-year-old and failing do her job by refusing to answer a perfectly reasonable question. “Are you a press secretary or a 5-year-old? Seriously, you need to grow up,” one X user responded.
A second wrote: “You actually posted this thinking it made you look good? This is why record numbers of republicans are leaving the party.” A third noted: “Are you not taxing the left and activists as well? So you don’t choose when to serve or respond to people who are paying your bills. Stop acting like kindergarten kids.”
Another said: “If you worked for a corporation, you would have been fired for this response. You are supposed to be a liaison between the government and the media. You’re not gaining respect by responding to people in a childish way, replying to a legitimate question with a five year-old response is so disrespectful.”
A Republican commented: “Regardless of his timeline or previous interactions (and I tend to not like the HuffPo by default) this was a reasonable question asked in a reasonable manner. And you acted like a clown. For the record, I’m a lifelong Republican saying this.” Another agreed: “I hate to agree with this journalist, but his question is legitimate. Negotiations in Budapest? The place where Ukraine gave up its nukes for false promises. That name doesn’t inspire trust — it screams betrayal.”
Leavitt did not answer the original question.
