Sober living home claims this N.J. town blocked housing for people in recovery

A federal appeals court has given a sober living nonprofit a second chance to press its discrimination claims against a Hudson County town over its right to operate.

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals weighed the lawsuit filed by Oxford House, a nonprofit helping individuals recovering from substance abuse find supportive housing, against the Township of North Bergen.

Oxford House originally sued the township in 2021 after officials refused to issue a Certificate of Continuing Occupancy for a two-family home the group had leased for residents in recovery.
