The big guns return for the 2026 Montreal Auto Show

Let’s face it, Montreal: January is bleak. Our cars currently look like mobile salt licks, the temporary car shelters are frustrating, and pothole season is just warming up. Thank goodness the Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) is here to remind us why some of us actually love driving.

This 81st edition takes over the Palais des Congrès January 16-25 and we’re here to tell you that this isn’t just “another year” at the show. After a few quiet editions where the floor felt a little sparse, the 2026 roster is looking serious.

Here is the headline news: The holdout is over. After years of absence that left a noticeable, premium-sized void on the show floor, both Audi and BMW are officially back. This is massive for the Quebec market. For a while, it felt like the major players were retreating entirely to digital launches, but their return signals that the physical, kick-the-tires experience is still king here.

If you want to get up close with the latest quattro tech or see BMW’s controversial new grille designs in the metal, you can again. But the organizers aren’t just resting on the return of the luxury brands. They are shaking up the layout with three distinct new zones for show-goers.

Our personal pick? The new Overlanding Outdoor Zone. Given the state of some of our infrastructure, “overlanding” is basically just a Tuesday commute in this city, so seeing the dedicated adventure rigs, lifted trucks, and expedition camping setups should be a huge hit. They have also added a dedicated Performance Zone for custom builds and bold designs, as well as a St-Hubert Family Zone to keep the future drivers entertained while the parents shop.

Of course, the beloved staples remain. The CAA-Quebec EV test drives are back — still one of the best ways to decide if you’re ready to ditch the gas pump without a dealership salesperson hovering around. You will also be able to see the freshly minted AJAC (Automobile Journalists Association of Canada) Best 12 Vehicles in Canada.

It’s shaping up to be the most complete show Montreal has had in years. We’ve got a long winter ahead so you might as well spend a daydreaming about what you might be driving when the snow finally melts.
