Two men were sentenced to 18 years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty in connection with the May 2023 killing of the daughter-in-law of an organized crime figure in Montreal.
Kalial Nesfield, 29, and Tyrane André Greenidge, 32, were accused in the shooting death of 39-year-old Claudia Iacono.
She was shot at point-blank range while sitting in her car in broad daylight. The shooting took place as she was leaving the parking lot of her hair salon, Le Deauville, on Jean-Talon Street in Côte-des-Neiges.
The two accomplices pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of conspiracy to commit murder rather than first-degree murder. During the proceedings, they admitted the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.
The intended target was Iacono’s partner, Anthony Gallo, the son of Moreno Gallo, a notorious Mafia figure who was killed in Mexico in 2013.
Anthony Gallo denies having any Mafia ties and maintains that he has a legitimate business.
While Nesfield and Greenidge have received their sentences, the case is not yet closed.
Two other individuals charged in connection with the killing — including the alleged shooter — are set to stand trial at a later date.
The alleged shooter is Joel Richard Clarke. He was arrested not long after the shooting, near Toronto.
Iacono’s death occurred amid a series of high-profile Mafia-related killings or attempted killings. For example, Francesco Del Balso, a high-profile organized crime figure, was shot dead in Montreal’s West Island about a month later.
