Commuters using Montreal’s light-rail network are facing disruptions once again.

The Édouard-Montpetit station is closed to the public until further notice due to problems with some of the elevators, Maxime Laliberté, a spokesperson for Réseau express métropolitain (REM), said Wednesday morning.

“All our teams are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible,” Laliberté said.

The station, located near the Université de Montréal, is situated 70 metres underground and relies on high-speed elevators to transport passengers to the surface. Service had still not been restored as of Wednesday afternoon.

Laliberté said the supplier has been contacted to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

In addition to the station closure, the network experienced a slowdown earlier Wednesday after two trains were stopped on the tracks.

The latest disruption adds to a growing list of breakdowns since the opening of the Deux-Montagnes branch last November.

The REM has experienced service interruptions of 20 minutes or longer roughly one day out of every four since the opening, according to data compiled by Radio-Canada.
