Study: Top 10 wealthiest US suburbs
The ten wealthiest suburbs in the United States have been ranked, and the Golden State dominated with three entries while New York topped the list. The New York City suburb of Scarsdale received the designation as the nation’s wealthiest suburb in 2026, according to a study from GOBanking Rates. The firm analyzed cities within metropolitan areas with at least 5,000 households. Its analysts then isolated the suburbs with the highest average incomes from 2014 through 2024. Three California suburbs made the top ten this year, including Los Altos, which ranked fourth, Alamo, which ranked seventh, and Orinda, which ranked tenth. All three moved up on the list over the past decade, with Orinda ranking 15th on the list in 2016, Los Altos coming in at 18th and Alamo ranking 20th.
Texas is also the home to two of the suburbs on the list – West University Place, which came in second after being ranked fourth in 2016, and University Park, which came in sixth after being ranked eighth in 2016. But other suburbs that were once in the top ten have fallen off, including Darien, Connecticut, which ranked third on the list in 2016, and Westport, Connecticut, which ranked seventh in 2016. Neither even made the top 50 wealthiest suburbs in 2026. The Daily Mail looks at each of the country’s wealthiest suburbs below.
Scarsdale, New York
Scarsdale, New York, took this year’s highest honor, with GOBanking Rates reporting it had an average household income of $612,591 in 2024 – up from $365,996 in 2014.
