Developer plans luxury townhomes in Downtown Dallas’ East Quarter District

A Texas builder is coming to Dallas’ East Quarter neighborhood as part of a new townhome development.

InTown Homes — a townhome builder with sites in Houston, Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth — announced a new downtown property Monday. Downtown Dallas has had most of its residential inventory concentrated in high-rises, said Brit Ewers, a sales consultant who has worked with InTown Homes, in a news release.

“Introducing brownstone-style homes here represents a distinct architectural evolution, bringing the scale, rhythm and livability of adjacent urban neighborhoods like Uptown and Bishop Arts into the city’s most central address,” Ewers said. “It’s a compelling opportunity for buyers who want to be in the heart of the city.”

Called the Brownstones at East Quarter, the gated community will feature 38 urban brownstone-style residences. The luxury townhomes represent a less common approach to downtown housing, coming at a time when several companies are leaving the area.

The townhomes will be at 2401 Canton St., near Commerce Street and Cesar Chavez Boulevard. The building is also near an on-ramp to Interstate 45.

The property has six homes available for purchase along Commerce Street, according to InTown Home’s website. The builder plans to build out the property.

The homes at the property have four stories, and floor plans will range from 2,150-square-feet to 3,300-square-feet.

The initial release offers three-bedroom apartments with floor plans up to 2,454-square feet. InTown Homes’ website lists available properties ranging from $799,900 to $864,900.

InTown Homes has other communities in locations like West Dallas and near the Dallas Medical District. The East Quarter location would be the builder’s first site in downtown Dallas.

The townhome building is in an area of Dallas that used to be known as the “Auto-Row” district in the 1920s, according to the news release. The area has been undergoing a transformation that has included several new residential and retail spaces.

The East Quarter is near the Dallas Farmers Market, Deep Ellum and the Central Business District.

Several companies announced this year that they would be departing downtown Dallas, including AT&T, Neiman Marcus, Fifth Third Bank, the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars.

Downtown Dallas had 838 total townhomes and condos along with over 11,300 rental units as of the fourth quarter of 2025, according to a report from Downtown Dallas Inc. The downtown area has a population of nearly 16,000 people, according to the report.
