Their House Is In A 'Super Cute Area' With Good Schools, But Horrible Neighbors

Living next to the wrong neighbors can turn an otherwise ideal home into a daily source of stress. One homeowner recently shared that reality on Reddit while explaining why they may have to sell a property they once loved.

The house itself checks many of the boxes buyers usually want. It sits in what the homeowner described as a “super cute area” with good schools. But life next door has become so frustrating that the owner says selling might be the only option.

When Neighbor Problems Take Over

According to the homeowner, the biggest problem is the property next door. The neighbors keep several dogs that bark on and off throughout the day. On top of that, the smell of cigarette smoke and marijuana frequently drifts into the yard.

Don’t Miss:

The situation has made it difficult to enjoy basic things like opening windows or spending time outside.

“Can’t really open a window for fresh air,” the homeowner said. “No one, I mean no one is going to want this sh*t hole.”

The owner says they already tried addressing the problem directly with the neighbors, but the conversation went nowhere.

“Yes I’ve talked to them about the dogs. They don’t care. HOA doesn’t care either,” the homeowner wrote.

Because of that, the owner began wondering whether the only realistic option might be selling to an investor at a discount just to escape the situation.

Many People Say Buyers May Not Care

The responses from other homeowners and real estate professionals offered a much more optimistic view.

A number of commenters said the owner may be overestimating how much the neighbor situation will affect potential buyers.

“There’s a buyer for every home,” one commenter wrote.

A real estate agent joked that the ideal buyer might even have the same lifestyle as the neighbors.

“The perfect buyer is someone with their own pack of dogs and a weed stash,” the agent wrote. “Put that house on the market.”

Others shared stories of homes selling successfully despite unpleasant surroundings. One person said they sold a property next to a hoarder’s house filled with junk cars and trash.

“Yet got multiple offers and was able to sell at market price,” the commenter wrote.

Another seller described a showing where a dog next door barked constantly while buyers toured the property.

“I thought to myself well they won’t be making an offer,” that commenter wrote. “But they actually put one in the next day and bought the house for the asking price.”

Because of examples like these, many commenters urged the homeowner not to jump straight to selling to investors.

Some also suggested temporary strategies to reduce the impact during showings, such as scheduling tours during quieter times or even offering neighbors money to keep the dogs indoors for a few hours.

Others recommended exploring local noise ordinances, code enforcement, or animal control complaints before deciding to sell.

Still, a few commenters acknowledged that sometimes peace of mind matters more than maximizing a sale price.

“Sanity is worth everything,” one person wrote, explaining they once sold a property at a discount just to get away from hostile neighbors.

For now, the homeowner is still weighing the options, but the overwhelming advice from others is that the house may be easier to sell than they think.

By spreading exposure across multiple asset classes, it becomes easier to manage risk, capture steady returns, and create long-term wealth that isn’t tied to the fortunes of just one company or industry.
