Three dead in NYC boating accident, others critical or missing after vessel capsizes in

Three people were killed and two others were injured when a boat capsized off of New York Sunday on Sunday.

Authorities received reports of a ‘vessel in distress’ and an ‘overturned boat’ with five people in the Ambrose Channel – which separates Staten Island from New Jersey and Brooklyn – at around noon, Gothamist reports.

FDNY, NYPD and the Coast Guard then removed several people from the frigid water, and rushed them to a nearby hospital, according to ABC 7.

Of those recovered, three were pronounced dead.

One other was hospitalized in critical condition and another was in stable condition.

Officials were also said to be looking for a sixth person, NBC 4 New York reports.

It is unclear what caused the boating accident and what kind of vessel overturned.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
