Two killed in Massachusetts plane crash

Two people were killed in a fiery small plane crash along Interstate 195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, WCVB reported.

Video showed the plane was ablaze along the median of the highway. A damaged car was also spotted, but it is unclear if the vehicle was involved in the plane crash.

Man spotted swimming at Massachusetts beach as Nor’easter comes in

A man was filmed taking a cold plunge the water at Nantasket Beach, about 12 miles outside of Boston, as the Nor’easter moved in over the weekend.

‘It’s really not bad at all to be honest. It’s almost warmer than the air,’ he told WCVB.

‘You wouldn’t want to go swimming out in that stuff. It can pull you under quickly, so I try to keep it just, you know, in and out.’

Where is New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy?

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy was not in his state as it was battered by the Nor’easter this weekend, leading acting governor Tahesha Way to declare a state of emergency.

‘I urge all New Jerseyans to exercise caution, monitor local weather forecasts and warnings, stay informed on evacuation protocols, and remain off the roads unless absolutely necessary,’ Way said.

Murphy’s office sent his public schedule in an October 8 email to reporters announcing he would be traveling to Europe with his wife, Tammy, from October 9 to October 14.

‘Governor Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy are out of state this weekend to attend a close family friend’s wedding in Europe,’ Murphy’s spokesman Tyler Jones told The New York Post.

‘The Governor has been in close communication with his team and emergency response officials regarding the nor’easter storm impacting the East Coast.’

What is a Nor’easter?

A Nor’easter is a storm along the East Coast of North America that gets its name because the winds over the coastal area are typically from the northeast.

These storms can occur at any time of year but are most frequent and most violent between September and April, according to the National Weather Service.

Nor’easters can cause billions of dollars in damage, severe economic disruption, transportation issues and disastrous coastal flooding.

These storms usually develop in the latitudes between Georgia and New Jersey, within 100 miles east or west of the East Coast, and progress generally northeastward.

A Nor’easter is a low-pressure system that intensifies as it moves to the northeast, as the warm air from the system clashes with cold air.

They nearly always bring precipitation in the form of heavy rain or snow, as well as gale-force winds, rough seas, and coastal flooding to the affected regions.

NJ Transit delays due to storm

New Jersey Transit suspended service along several lines and is facing major delays due to heavy rain, strong winds and flooding.

North Jersey Coast Line service is suspended between Bay Head and Long Branch through the end of service on Monday.

Atlantic City Rail Line service is suspended between Atlantic City and Philadelphia 30th Street Station.

Several bus routes have also been suspended or detoured on Monday.

What to do during a power outage

A power outage is when the electrical power goes out unexpectedly.

It may disrupt communications, water, transportation, close businesses, cause food spoilage and water contamination, and may prevent use of medical devices.

Ready.gov, a part of the US Department of Homeland Security, has a list of tips and tricks to help survive a power outage.

  • Keep freezers and refrigerators closed
  • Use a generator that is kept outdoors and away from windows
  • Do not use a gas stove or oven to heat your home to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Disconnect appliances and electronics
  • Have alternate plans for refrigerating medicines and using medical devices
