A homeless man charged with stabbing a costume designer in the neck with a broken bottle as part of an attack on two women shouted that he wanted to ‘kill a b***h’, police said.

Muslim Brunson, 46, has been ordered by a judge to undergo a psychiatric evaluation following an assault on Megan Berg, 25, on Monday.

Brunson allegedly threw a bottle at an unidentified woman, before using the smashed pieces to slash Berg in the neck as she walked down a street in New York’s ritzy Soho neighborhood.

The Arizona native was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in a critical condition and had to undergo emergency neck surgery with at least 40 stitches.

She remains on a respirator as of Wednesday, the New York Post reports.

Brunson has a history of mental health issues and a lengthy rap sheet including convictions for violent crimes.

He had only been back in New York 60 days before carrying out the sick attack, prosecutors said.

The unidentified woman told police she felt something strike her and turned the suspect, ‘holding a large, green glass bottle in his hand,’ according to a criminal complaint.

She says she then heard him shout, ‘I’m going to kill a b***h,’ and decided to run before she heard ‘screaming and the sound of breaking class’, the filings state.

Berg told the cops she was walking down the street when she saw the suspect ‘holding a bottle up at her and throw said bottle at her neck’.

Her father George Berg said she had been pursuing her dream career as a Broadway costume designer in the city.

‘It’s just crazy. She’s still hanging on,’ he told the New York Post.

Brunson was picked up by police officers shortly after the attack took place.

Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Beverly Tatham ordered he be held in custody pending his psychiatric evaluation.

‘In broad daylight, the defendant attacked two complete strangers within minutes in front of numerous witnesses,’ Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Mary Simeone said.

‘Upon his arrest, the defendant screamed threats at an eyewitness who assisted the police in his apprehension.’

She added that Brunson has a history of mental problems. Sources told the New York Post that these included hearing voices telling him to hurt people, per incident reports.

His rap sheet includes an alleged attack on July 4, 2022, that left a 53-year-old woman with serious injuries to her face.

The NYPD told DailyMail.com that Brunson attacked the woman at Fulton Street in the city’s ritzy Financial District by pushing her from behind, causing her to strike a subway pole.

‘The victim sustained bruising and swelling to the face,’ a spokesperson said, adding that she was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Brunson also allegedly robbed and assaulted a 13-year-old boy in Brooklyn in 2019.

He has been to state prison at least once before and previously was ordered to take part in a mental health program.

‘What is clear from Mr. Brunson’s record is that he is struggling with a mental health crisis,’ defense attorney Mildred Morillo said.

‘And while none of us would blame someone with a stomach virus for vomiting, it does not make sense to then say that he has a demonstrated contempt for law enforcement.’

Berg worked on musicals since 2017 and was most recently an assistant costume designer on off-Broadway productions of Fallen Angels, The Irrepressible Magic of the Tropics and Music City: A New Musical.

Jade McLeon, a theater performer and former colleague, told The Post that Berg was ‘a sweet girl’.
