Heidi Klum, 52, is joined by model son Henry Samuel, 20, as they lead the red carpet

Heidi Klum was in good company on Wednesday evening as she made her latest red carpet appearance at the New York City premiere of Project Hail Mary.

On hand to celebrate a science fiction film set in the further reaches of deep space, Klum looked out of this world while posing for photos outside Manhattan’s Lincoln Centre.

But she was almost overshadowed by stylish son Henry Samuel, the German supermodel’s son with ex-husband Seal.

The towering 20-year old, who has followed in his mother’s footsteps by embarking on a modelling career,  caught the eye in a beige two-piece suit and plunging leopard print blouse while accompanying his mother on Wednesday.

Posing alongside her son, Klum, 52, looked typically elegant in a loose fitting white co-ord and silver stiletto heels as they made their way inside the New York venue.

The pair were joined by principal cast members Ryan Gosling, Milana Vayntrub, James Ortiz and Sandra Hüller on the red carpet ahead of the new film’s latest screening.

Other guests on the night included Elias Becker – the son of German tennis legend Boris – and reality TV personality Jonathan Cheban.

Based on author Andy Weir’s 2021 book of the same title, Project Hail Mary follows astronaut Ryland Grace, played by Gosling, a science teacher waking up to learn he was recruited for a space mission to save Earth from an existential solar threat.

Appearing at CinemaCon in 2025, Gosling described his character as “a scared guy who has to do something impossible.”

‘It took me places I’ve never been,’ he said. ‘It showed me things I had never seen. It was as heartbreaking as it was funny and I was… not just blown away, but also overwhelmed.’

Weir – whose previous novel The Martian was also turned into a Hollywood blockbuster –  said it was “so cool” to see his book come to life and complimented Gosling for giving “many layers to this character I made up.”

Directors Christopher Lord and Phil Miller, the Oscar-winning duo behind the Spider-Man animated films, talked about the challenges of shooting a “crazy ambitious” film which takes place inside a spaceship for the most part.

‘We had to build an entire spaceship in two modes of gravity, and then we built this entire massive tunnel at scale,’ Miller said.

‘This is insane, to build a tunnel that was like 100 feet (30 meters) long, filled up an entire stage.’

The film’s trailer scored 400 million views globally in just its first week online, according to WaveMetrix, via Deadline.

The trailer’s success may have been partly due to the interest in Ryan’s appearance, as the actor looked unrecognisble in portions of the video due to his wild, unkempt beard and long, scraggly hair.

According to WaveMetrix, the Project Hail Mary trailer’s 400 million views represent the most ever for an original film that is not a sequel or a remake.

Hüller’s character ominously says in the trailer: ‘The sun is not the only star dying. If we do nothing, everything on this planet will go extinct.’

At CinemaCon, Gosling took a playful swipe at his directors, saying of Lord and Miller, ‘They are only happy if they make you do the very rare and coveted laugh-cry.’

‘It’s an insanely ambitious story that’s massive in scope, and it seemed really hard to make, and that’s kind of our bag.

‘This is why we go to the movies. And I’m not just saying it because I’m in it. I’m also saying it because I’m a producer on the film.’
